Corning Hiking Club

CHC was a club that met every Sunday Morning... 7am... Year-Round @ the Corning Public Parking Lot next to McDonald's (but not the McDonald's parking lot!). Everyone was invited! This schedule may return. For the meantime, however, club hours have been de-specified. If you'ld like to arrange a hike, please contact me ahead of time and we'll work something out. See you soon! Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve

If you're not me, you missed a couple of incredible hikes these past few weekends. Last week, I followed a trail that runs parallel w/: The Road to Watkins Glen, Train Tracks & a Creek. I didn't have to work until 1, so I was out longer than usual- about a 4.5 hour walk, all together. A deer pranced by, but was too fast for a picture.

Corning Hiking Club

Corning Hiking Club
Sunday 12/03/06

Forgot the camera this trip! Although solo, I had a great hike: started out with the intentions of walking the train tracks toward Beaver Dams (along w/ some parallel truck routes and... who knows what else is back there?) but got sidetracked when I spotted some 2x4's on the river's edge. I ended up carrying them to a spot I could later get to w/ my car and continued on going west. I walked along the river and under the overpasses until a big culvert, too deep to easily cross, made me head North and come out near Autozone/Wendy's.

It was a beautiful and crisp morning. It was cold enough that the mud was frozen, but not fully solid. I wore a bunch of layers and was actually a little hot for the 2nd half of the walk.

Along the walk I was noticing (again) the ridge that runs across the steep cliff-face, overlooking the city from the West Side. If I can figure out where to pick it up, that would be one of Corning's best hikes! Does anybody know where it begins/ends/traverses?
